"So you've picked out a familiar and ready to take it home? Have you read this guide yet?? Ah yeah the familiar system has changed my friend! Please give this a read!"

Click through the dropdowns below to find the information you are searching for! This page was converted to dropdowns for better page sizing and readability.
wHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT FAMILIAR TYPES?
Picture

Cat Familiar

What it does:
The Cat Familiar allows you to revive a deceased horse after a minimum of 6 months has passed since they were deceased. This bonus may only be used once per horse, and you gain a specific number of breeding slots depending on tier. You also get to keep a certain amount of the horse's kaaring from its previous life, but otherwise you start fresh!
In addition, once per year you have a chance at earning more slots for your horse, or a necromancer's hand.

Please note: The cat familiar, once bonded to your horse cannot be unbonded unless you have reached 100% trust, or have obtained a necromancer's hand.

Please note: You may not re-earn slots earned through kaaring in the horse's previous life, even if it has been redesigned and you start the kaaring ladder anew. Horses that have been taken through the kaaring levels, deceased, and asked to revive by the same owner or associated accounts may be denied if the cat is being used to circumvent slot limits.

Tiers:
  • T1 - 1-4 slots given; Save 20kp from before death
  • T2 - 5-7 slots given; Save 50kp from before death
  • T3 - 8-10 slots given; Save 100kp from before death

How can it look?
The cat may present as any feline species; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. This does not include humanoid-presenting forms (I.e werecats), other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Fox Familiar

What it does:
The Fox Familiar allows you to reroll breedings, and / or pass a natural gene from the parents in a breeding.
Natural gene passes awarded by the Fox Familiar work the same as a T1 Gene Pass; Meaning that you can choose one natural gene and either force or prevent it from passing. You cannot force both copies of a gene to pass, only one.
Example: if one parent is RR you can only force nR, not RR. The other parent would need to be nR or RR in order to force RR.
Currently, the Fox Familiar is the only way to completely reroll an existing breeding while retaining the same parents and ID number.  Read more about rerolls on the Breedings page!

How can it look?
The fox may present as any fox species; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. So long as it is clearly a fox and not any other kind of canine or feline species, anything goes! This does not include humanoid-presenting form, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Hound Familiar

What it does:
The Hound is a familiar that is utilized in the Arena. With this companion by your side your chances of finding item caches in Arena is greatly increased!
In addition, a Hound familiar in the Arena carries with it a chance at sneaking in under the dragon's nose and stealing something from their hoard. Who knows what you'll be able to loot?
As you draw and build trust with your hound, you earn even higher chances of finding caches at 30%, 70%, and 100% trust; However, 100% trust does not guarantee you'll always find an item cache.

How can it look?
The hound may present as any canine species; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. This does not include humanoid-presenting forms (I.e werewolves), foxes, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Raptor Familiar

What it does:
The Raptor is a familiar that is utilized in Cartography. With this sharp-eyed companion by your side your chances of finding a greater number of items in Cartography is greatly increased!

How can it look?
The raptor generally presents as any predatory avian species; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. This does not include humanoid-presenting forms (I.e angels, demons, etc) aquatic avian species, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.
Like the swan, owls, corvids, and songbirds are also permitted as part of this species.

Picture

Reindeer Familiar

What it does:
The Reindeer is a familiar that prances your way twice a year to give you additional slots for your horses. In the spring, the reindeer will bring you natural slots, in the winter, they will bring you slots to your Christmas mutation horses.
On rare occasions, the reindeer will bring you additional items, mutation slots, or even imports as part of your yearly rolls.

How can it look?
The reindeer may present as any cervidae or deer-like species; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. This does not include humanoid-presenting forms (I.e satyrs), other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Rock Familiar

What it does:
The Rock is a familiar that allows you to choose and combine the attributes of two separate familiars. Want a raptor and a hound? A reindeer and a swan? The rock has you covered!
However, the rock has a caveat: It cannot be used to combine a cat familiar with another familiar.

How can it look?
Like the sprite familiar, this familiar may take on many different forms, sometimes having multiple forms in one familiar. This ability to shapeshift however cannot include humanoid-presenting forms, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Sprite Familiar

What it does:
The Sprite familiar allows you to add natural genes to your foals that are otherwise unavailable through the parents.  Once per year, the sprite will give you a certain number of genes that you can add to your breedings.
If you are really lucky, the sprite will reward you with a Narine's Gift, which allows you to add a mutation gene to your foal from anywhere within that foal's lineage.

How can it look?
Like the rock familiar, this familiar may take on many different forms, sometimes having multiple forms in one familiar. This ability to shapeshift however cannot include humanoid-presenting forms, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.

Picture

Swan Familiar

What it does:
The Swan familiar grants you a certain number of visits per year, at each visit bringing you gifts of GC and banked kaaring that you can use on any horse of your choice!

How can it look?
The swan generally presents as any aquatic avian species or waterfowl; realistic, fantasy, sci-fi, or anywhere in-between. This does not include humanoid-presenting forms, predatory avian species, other ARPG or otherwise copyrighted species.
Like the raptor, owls, corvids, and songbirds are also permitted as part of this species.
about: ownership

Ownership

In Nordanner, a Familiar is like a companion that you can bond to a single horse, which you can submit once per year for rewards!

Each Familiar has its own Official Tracking Log similar to a kaaring plaque.
Logs are searchable by horse ID or name in the Nordministrator gallery. The familiar's log is where we will track sales, ownership, rewards, and trust. In addition, if a horse has a familiar it will be linked in the ID List.
Picture
If you are looking for how to purchase a familiar, you purchase them the same as any other game item as outlined on the In-Game Banking page!
For familiar pricing, you can either visit their Nordministrator item page (linked for each familiar type in the dropdowns below), or check them out in The Store
about: Bonding

Bonding

Current Limit: 3 bondings

Yay! You've got your first familiar, and you've picked out their new best friend! Now we'll move onto bonding.

The bonding process is easy-peasy. Once  your familiar appears in your Bank you are all ready to bond.
  • Note: Please double check before bonding that the familiar is in your account.
  • Note: Please keep a note of the bonding limit above. If you submit more than the current limit, all submissions over the limit will be declined and you will have to resubmit.
  • Note: Once bonded to your horse your familiar will be eligible to give visits the month after being bonded. Sadly, you won't have any visits until then!

Next, make your way over to THIS MONTH'S JOURNAL and fill out the following form on the BONDING thread:

      Familiar: [Fox, Cat, etc]
Horse bonding to: [Nordanner ID AND NAME]
Name: (if you want to give your familiar a name, this is where it goes. This is optional.)

Breed/Species: (If you want to give your familiar a specific breed/species, this is where it goes)

And that's it! Once the Stable Master bonds your familiar, you will get a ping when your familiar's plaque is uploaded. From that point on, your familiar is all official and you may start earning trust and rewards.
  • Note: Only Nordanner admin may comment on the familiar logs.
  • Note: You will have to submit your familiars for rewards each year. See below 'Rewards' section for further instructions.

Now you can go ahead and start using your familiars!
about: trust

Trust

Current Limit: 3 submissions

In an uncertain world, trust is key. You may be bonded, but now what?

Now, you earn your familiar's trust!
Drawing your familiar and submitting the art will increase this stat. Each image submitted to the trust thread will increase your familiar's trust stat.

There are three levels of Trust Difficulty (TD). Each Familiar type falls into one of three categories which are EASY, MEDIUM and HARD. The familiars that are listed as Easy will be easier to gain trust and less likely to lose trust. Each tier goes up in difficulty. Trust and whether you earn or lose trust is completely RNG, but you can get an idea of your chances below!

Per each art entry:
EASY: 1-5 RNG points of trust, with a 3% chance at loss of trust
MEDIUM: 1-5 RNG points, with a 5% chance of loss
HARD: 1-5 RNG points, with a 10% chance of loss
  • Currently, 100%  trust equals 100 points. This may change depending on actual use of this system. Once 100% is reached, your familiar is more likely to give you extra goodies.
  • Selling a familiar damages trust. The trust bar will completely reset upon transfer to another player.
  • Cat has a unique relationship with trust. You will not be able to unbond a cat without first reaching 100% trust, or if she has given you a necromancer's hand.
Picture

Okay, so now that we've explained how to get trust; Now lets explain how to tally it up!

You will need to go to the Nordministrator gallery and search for your familiar's plaque, if you don't already have the link saved. Once you have that, scurry on over to
THIS MONTH'S JOURNAL and fill out the following form on the TRUST thread:

Familiar Link: [Found on the Familiar's Log page]
[LINK TO IMAGE]

Please note:
  • There is maximum of one familiar and one image per comment. Once you've put in that form, you will wait for the Stable Master to judge your work.
  • All trust images are kept in your familiar's log under their plaque, so be sure that you aren't submitting an image which you've already claimed trust for!
  • Please keep a note of the submissions limit above. If you submit more than the current limit, all submissions over the limit will be declined and you will have to resubmit!

Once a familiars admin has tallied your trust, they will add your image and the trust points to the TRUST section of your familiar log, and the trust points applied to your familiar.
about: FAMILIAR rewards

Rewards

You've no doubt heard it mentioned, but did you know that each familiar gives you rewards for their friendship? Let's talk about how to reap those rewards.

Under 'What Are the Different Familiar Types?' and in the description of each familiar's Nordministrator page you'll have seen what rewards you can earn for each familiar. However, these rewards are no longer automatically rolled for you; You've got to claim them!

Claiming rewards is a simple process. On familiars where you can claim rolled rewards, just make your way over to  THIS MONTH'S JOURNAL and fill out the following form on the REWARD ROLLS thread::

Familiar: (Link to familiar plaque and ID)
      Year(s) you are rolling: (2025, 2026, etc)

The following familiars are those which you claim yearly rewards for:
  • Cat
  • Fox
  • Reindeer
  • Rock (depending on which familiars you've chosen to combine!)
  • Sprite
  • Swan
Raptor and Hound familiars offer bonuses in Cartography and Arena, therefore their 'rewards' are rolled each time you use them in those group activities!
Picture
Note: For familiars in which you can claim yearly rewards, they may only be submitted ONCE per calendar year for rewards. You can submit for multiple years at once;  If you forgot to submit for a specific year, or notice that there is a year missing on your familiar's log (and it was not unbonded during that time) you can submit for that missing year along with the current year. You may not submit for a future year, only the current year and those already past.
about: unbonding & Rebonding

Unbonding

Finding the perfect fit for your horse can be a hard one sometimes, and we respect that!
We do allow you to unbond your familiar as you wish! (Unless the bonded familiar is a cat, read about the cat under 'What Are The Different Familiar Types?' above).
Note: If you would like to unbond your familiar from the horse it is assigned to, the trust level you worked hard to gain will completely reset to zero.

If you are sure you want to unbond your Familiar, you will need to make your way over to THIS MONTH'S JOURNAL and fill out the following form on the UNBONDING thread:

Familiar Thread Link: [Found on the Familiar's Log page]
Horse unbonding from: [Nordanner ID AND NAME]

Picture
After the familiar is unbonded, it will remain on its log - to bond to another horse, please follow rebonding steps!
  • Note familiars will NOT collect rewards during this period of unbonding.
If you are looking to sell your familiar after unbonding, you would do so like any other item either through the nord-advertisements or the Pawnbroker in the-bazaar.

Rebonding

Once a familiar has been unbonded it may be rebonded to a new horse.
When you are ready to rebond your familiar to its new BFF, simply follow the same steps as you would when bonding a familiar, only instead of the type of familiar link the familiar's existing plaque in the 'Familiar:' section of the form!

Once bonded to your horse your familiar will begin to give visits the month following the one in which they were bonded. Sadly, you won't have any visits until then!
  • Please note: Cats must have 100% Trust to be unbonded and rebonded, OR you must posses a Necromancer's Hand.

 Easy as that!
about: reviving a deceased horse
Reviving a horse is a little more complex than just applying a cat to a deceased Nordanner.
Please see Reviving A Nordanner for more information!
