Mushroom Bases
Occurs as: __ mumu
Mushroom is a dilute gene that desaturates a chestnut base coat to a sepia-like tone. It affects the entire base coat equally, diluting both the body and the mane and tail.
Mushroom only affects chestnut bases, and will be listed as mushroom carrier on all bay and black bases.
Mushroom is a double-recessive gene, meaning that it must have two copies in order for it to be present. Mushroom with only one copy -- nmu -- can only be carried, and will not be present on the horse's base coat.
Mushroom was introduced to the breed by: H0T-Stables and Tealmagpie.

Horses with this gene CAN:
- Have a desaturated base coat that is sepia or nut-brown in color.
- Have purple, lavender, lilac or violet-colored eyes.
- Have a mane and tail which are always lighter than the base coat of the horse, regardless of if flaxen is present.
- Optionally have darker points, which must be darker than the rest of the base, but not black. Points do not have to extend up to the knees and hocks.
- Display a pangare-like effect, without pangare present.
- Optionally display a dappling effect on the base coat.
- Have white markings that are not caused by any form of genetic white. Please see the Natural White page to learn more about what is acceptable for non-genetic white.
Horses with this gene CANNOT:
- Be present on a bay or black-based horse.
- Be present on the base in nmu form -- there must be two copies of mushroom in order for it to be present.
- Have a mane and tail which are the same shade as, or darker than the body of the horse.
- Be a dark saturated brown, or be yellow in tone.
- Display eye colors other than purple hues, unless another gene which changes eye color is present.
See the color bar below for a range of acceptable shades.
The examples below show only a few of the accepted shades, for you to get an idea of the range of shades possible with black. Overall, the color bar above should be your guide for the acceptable range of coloration.
Please note: Nordanner genes may simplify certain genes from real life. Genes may not present in Nordanner the way they do in real life or in other ARPG breeds, and are as close to being realistic as possible while still maintaining standards within the breed.
