Dilute: Silver
Occurs as: __ nZ | __ ZZ
Silver is a dilute gene. It primarily affects the mane and tail of a black or bay-based horse, but may also dilute the base as well, lightening it and creating a dappling effect across the body -- i.e "Silver Dapple" or "Chocolate" horses.
Silver only affects bay and black based horses, and will be listed as silver carrier on chestnut bases.
Sivler is a dominant gene, meaning that it only needs one copy, or allele, in order for it to be present.

Horses with this gene CAN:
- Have lightening of the mane and tail. Which can range from a milk chocolate color at darkest expression, to white at the lightest expression.
- Optionally have a gradient in the mane and tail, with a darker color at the root of the hair, and the lightest color at the ends of the hair.
- Optionally lighten the entire base coat -- however this lightening is not as extreme as single cream. Please see the examples below for an idea of how this works!
- Optionally show a dappling effect across the base coat of the horse.
- Have white markings that are not caused by any form of genetic white. Please see the Natural White page to learn more about what is acceptable for non-genetic white.
Horses with this gene CANNOT:
- Be present on a chestnut-based horse.
- Display changes to eye color as a result of the silver gene.
- Have a mane and tail which are the same shade as, or darker than the body of the horse.
The examples below show only a few of the accepted presentations, for you to get an idea of the range of presentations possible with silver.
Please note: Nordanner genes may simplify certain genes from real life. Genes may not present in Nordanner the way they do in real life or in other ARPG breeds, and are as close to being realistic as possible while still maintaining standards within the breed.
