So, you've got yourself some breeding slots and you are ready to breed a foal? Well, you have come to the right place.
Basic Rules and Information:
|
- As stated in Group Rule 2, you cannot sell a slot that is not yet unlocked!
- Even if you own the horse, you will need to have your full username listed on the slot that is being used.
- "Mine", "Owner", "Used" etc are not acceptable forms of marking the slot.
- Keep accurate records! Selling horses with incomplete or knowingly false lists will result in group action.
- If you purchase a horse with slots already marked, you may not change the rules, guidelines, or restrictions on those slots, or add restrictions that were not previously agreed upon between the horse's old owner and slot holder.
- Example: You may not attempt to force someone to do a breeding picture when the slot had no such restrictions previously.
- If you purchase a horse with slots already marked, you may not change the rules, guidelines, or restrictions on those slots, or add restrictions that were not previously agreed upon between the horse's old owner and slot holder.
- You cannot remove reserved slots. For more information on this decision, check out the FAQ page under the Breedings and Foal Designs section.
- All breedings will be submitted through Storkdanner in the current month's journal. You can find the current month's submission journal under "Posts" on the Storkdanner main page.
- Current limits for breedings will be listed on that month's journal, and a copy of the form to be used when submitting breedings is relisted there!
- Please remember to link the sire and dam's ID and name, with the link going back to the horse's reference. Steps on how to do this are listed below.
- Any items used on a breeding should be submitted to the bank through the item-redeem tab on discord first, and linked in the comment on your breeding request. This is to minimize confusion on the admin side, and to be sure that the item is actually in your bank! The bank transaction does not have to be approved prior to submitting the breeding.
- All items used in a breeding will apply to both genos received. For example, a breedable potion used on a breeding will mean that both genos received should have the breedable potion!
- If we ask for corrections to your breeding, please do so in a new comment on the monthly submissions journal. If you have questions on the correction we have asked for, we ask that you note the Storkdanner account, as replies in comment threads will not be responded to!
Every owner may have different rules for breeding with their horses. Nordanner does not enforce private breeding rules. The group will get involved only in special cases revolving around broken group rules, scams, unmade payments, etc.
How to Breed: Step-by-Step
Though you will receive two possible genotypes + phenotypes, you will need to choose just one! You are more than welcome to design both and see which one you like, however you can only submit one for approval.
Step 1: Acquire slots to a registered mare and stallion completely unrelated to each other and of breeding age (5 years or older).
Step 2: Once your name is listed on both of the horses' breeding lists, comment on the current month's Breeding and Foal Design Approvals journal over on Storkdanner.
The comment should include:
Sire:
Dam:
Items to be used: (you will need to link any bank transactions, familiar rewards used, etc here!)
Step 3: Patiently wait for your genos! An admin will then reply to your comment when they are next online and clearing backlogs.
Once your genos have been rolled, go to How to: Designing and Submitting Your Foal

Additional Notes and Help With Breedings!
- Results of breedings are random and you cannot affect the outcome without the use of a gene pass.
- Foals may only be rerolled if Familiar rewards are used.
- All bank items being used on breedings should be submitted prior to sending in the breeding!
- Your full username must be listed on both of their breeding slots (even if it is a horse you own).
- Please link the sire and dam's reference with their ID and name. Steps on how to do this are below!
- Open your comment that you are submitting and the sire and dam's most current references in separate tabs.
- Fill out the form in your submission comment. You will have to type out the sire and dam's ID + Name first in order to link it!
- Highlight the sire's ID + Name in your submission comment.
- Click the link icon in the popup that appears when you highlight the text, OR use ctrl k to bring up the same thing!
- Copy + Paste the link to the sire's reference in the popup box that appears.
- Click apply, and your highlighted text should now be a link!
- Repeat the same steps for the dam's reference.
- If using items on your breeding, please submit a comment to the bank first, then include the link on your breeding comment!
- Please only submit one breeding per comment. Comments with multiple breedings will be declined and asked to resubmit!
rerolling breedings

How To: Reroll A Breeding
You may reroll a breeding with the following item:
When you choose to reroll a breeding, the parents and items used will remain the same, but the genos given will be different.
You may reroll a breeding with the following item:
- Fox Familiar Rewards
When you choose to reroll a breeding, the parents and items used will remain the same, but the genos given will be different.
- You may add items to the breeding that were not listed in the original breeding request, you must link the bank transaction comment in your reroll request.
- Submit the breeding to be rerolled in a new comment in the log for the monthly journal in Storkdanner.
- In the new comment, state that you are rerolling a breeding, and include a link to;
- The original breeding;
- The Fox Familiar reward being used;
- All of the information from the breeding being rerolled, including any additional used items.
- All of this can be listed under the "Items to be used" section of the form.

cancelling breedings
How To: Cancellation of Breedings:
You may only cancel a breeding if:
More information on how to cancel breedings:
You may only cancel a breeding if:
- You were the one who bred said foal, there is no foal design, and you still own the foal.
- The foal was bred less than 6 months ago.
- You accidentally used a slot to a horse twice.
- Accidental inbreeding.
- You linked the wrong parents/ parents you did not intend to breed together.
More information on how to cancel breedings:
- If your breeding has not yet been rolled please hide or delete your comment from the breedings queue.
- If you have already received your genos please send a note to Storkdanner . Include a link to the breeding you would like to be canceled and the reason you are canceling the breeding.
- The group reserves the right to deny cancellation, should it seem the breeder is abusing the ability by frequent cancellations. If you decide you simply do not want the foal any longer, that is not a valid enough reason to cancel the breeding. You can sell it, or donate it to our Nordanner Adoption Center.
inbreeding or crossbreeding
Inbreeding or Crossbreeding
Crossbreeding is not allowed in Nordanner. If a breeding is sent between a Nordanner and another breed, it will be rejected.
Nordanner also doesn't allow inbreeding at any point in a horse's lineage, be it on the grid or in starter lists. If a Nord is found to have two or more of the same horses in its lineage it will be marked as deceased, and the owner notified.

- Inbreeding is described as having one or more horses listed more than once in a horse's lineage. It does not matter if the duplicate is a natural or mutation, or if it was a mistake made by breeding admin several years ago.
- The same as with cancellations, the slots used to make the horse will once again be considered open for use, and a separate breeding with different parents may be sent in to create a new horse. The ID of the horse will be recycled for use either in another breeding, or in the Newbie Training Arena.
how genetics work in nordanner
How Genetics Work in Nordanner:
Here's a basic breakdown of how they work within Nordanner as our genetics are not 100% true to life.
Nordanner, like with many HARPG breeds, simplifies or clarifies certain genetics and phenotypes from real life. Not all genes will function the same as in real life, as these genes are simplified, and it makes it easier on use to review foals by sticking to certain standards. When it comes to breeding in particular, not all genes will pass the same as a natural gene (50% chance to pass). Read below for more information!

When it comes to breeding in particular, not all genes will pass the same as a natural gene (50% chance to pass). Read below for more information!
Natural genes:
Natural horses' genes do mimic real life, in that if you have one copy (recessive or heterozygous) there will be a 50% chance that the gene will pass. If you have two copies of a gene (dominant or homozygous), the gene will be guaranteed to pass to the foal.
Fun Fact: Genotypes and other random, non-breedable traits such as mimicry, chimera, somatic, birdcatcher spots, brindle, and bend-or spots, are determined by chance. You may even roll for twins, which is quite rare within Nordanners!
Randomly-Generated Traits (aka RNG traits) do not have a genetic component and may pop up randomly in breedings. You may apply a randomly-chosen RNG trait to a breeding with a Luck Potion, or choose the RNG Trait to be present in both foal genos with an RNG Trait item.
Percentage Breakdown: (chances of rolling RNG Traits without the use of additional items)
Mutation genes:
Mutation horses, on the other hand, are entirely different. The chances of the mutation gene passing are as follows:
(Peafowl is used as the example, but most of the mutations, save the ones listed below, work in the same way!)
Breedable potions:
Although breedable potions are not seen in a horse's genotype, they can still be passed down to offspring. Breedable potions pass the same as a natural gene, with a 50% chance. Horses can have up to two (2) breedable potions present.
Anomalies:
Anomalies work the same as Lethal Overo and Lethal White. If the horse has one (1) copy of the gene it will display characteristics of the anomaly. If two (2) copies of a single kind of anomaly gene are present the foal will be a Lethal Foal. A horse may have more than one (1) kind of anomaly present with no cap on number of anomalies.
Examples:
Natural horses' genes do mimic real life, in that if you have one copy (recessive or heterozygous) there will be a 50% chance that the gene will pass. If you have two copies of a gene (dominant or homozygous), the gene will be guaranteed to pass to the foal.
- Example 1: EE aa nSty x EE aa = Chance of EE aa nSty, OR chance of simply EE aa. The horse is guaranteed to be EE aa, with a 50% chance of sooty.
- Example 2: A horse with SplSpl (two copies of the splash gene) would always pass down one copy (nSpl) because it is dominant. However, if a horse with only one copy of the splash gene (nSpl), it would only pass down Splash 50% of the time to its offspring.
- Lethal Overo and Lethal White
- In Nordanners, some foals may be born with OO or WW and live! This is, however, very rare. There is a 10% chance a horse that rolls these genetics will live.
- If your horse rolls Lethal White and dies, you will only receive one genotype as a result. The other will be listed as LETHAL OVERO or LETHAL WHITE.
- It is possible to receive two lethal genos. The group will not refund breedings where this is the case. By breeding horses together which have overo or dominant white, you are accepting that there is a risk of a lethal foal.

Percentage Breakdown: (chances of rolling RNG Traits without the use of additional items)
- Twins (0.8%)
- Birdcatcher spots (4.6%)
- Brindle (0.8%)
- Bend-or Spots (0.8%)
- Somatic Mutation (0.8%)
- Chimera (0.8%)
- Lacing (0.08%)
- Mimicry mutation (0.8%)
- Pumpkin Gene (In season: Approx 4.5%. Out of season: 0.8%)
- Eggnog Gene (In season: Approx 4.5%. Out of season: 0.8%)
Mutation genes:
Mutation horses, on the other hand, are entirely different. The chances of the mutation gene passing are as follows:
(Peafowl is used as the example, but most of the mutations, save the ones listed below, work in the same way!)
- PwlPwl x No mutation = nPwl
- nPwl x nPwl = nPwl
- PwlPwl x nPwl = PwlPwl
- PwlPwl x PwlPwl = PwlPwl
- nPwl x No mutation OR other recessive mutation = No mutation.
Examples:
- Foal with a single Albino (Alb) gene --> foal will show characteristics of Albino.
- Foal with two Albino (AlbAlb) genes --> LETHAL FOAL
- The same goes with all anomaly genes, not just Albino.
- Foal with one Albino (Alb) gene and one Xolo (Xo) gene --> Foal will be an Albino Xolo, two separate anomalies are not lethal.
Once you have your new genos, you are ready to move on to Designing your Foal
