1.2.1 Monstrosities: Estorn

Estorn

Monstrum ornithcontamino
Picture
Typical Adult Estorn 16-20 in | 40-50 cm wingspan. Lifespan: 8-15 years.

About:

Estorn are among the first recorded species bourne completely from corruption. It is unknown precisely which host species they originated from, but it is believed that they may have come from mutated Ravens. Though they are small–they are a highly aggressive species. They are also unusually adept at being able to hide themselves despite their bright, glowing purple plumage–as they are well known for seeming to melt out of shadows to attack passerby.
Estorn are a unique species when it comes to social structure—as they seem to either live alone, or in flocks that can number from a few individuals, to nearly fifty. It is not uncommon to see two or more separate flocks battling for territory–destroying everything that lies in their path. In addition to being aggressive, they appear to be a highly intelligent species, and have been recorded mimicking animal or even human sounds to lure in unsuspecting victims. Estorn beaks and claws are coated with toxins that cause extreme inflammation at wound sites, and can cause severe illness in high concentrations. It is believed that they use these toxins as part of their hunting strategy. Estorn are carnivorous, and have been seen eating all manner of species, including their own.
Differences between Estorn genders and Estorn breeding habits have not been observed, and is therefore unknown.

Hunting Recommendations:Potions and magic are ineffective against an attacking Estorn.
Weaponry is the best option for defending against Estorn attacks!
Mail and armor are recommended to protect from physical attacks!
Estorn appear to ignore Ortho nordanners, assumedly because they are also born of corruption–Ortho nordanners may be useful for stealth operations!
Toxins from wounds caused by an Estorn are able to be drawn out with salves!
Going after an Estorn nest is only recommended for experienced teams!
Habitat & Diet:Estorn are found anywhere on the continents– always near arcane or corruption sources. It is believed that they originated from Malgosfrom as the land slowly died, and they migrated to other lands following the creeping corruption and power of arcane sources.
Breeding Season: Unknown.
