1.1.9 Dragons: Dramander

Dramander

Draconis dramandii

Typical Adult Dramander 10-19 in | 30-50 cm at the top of shoulder. Lifespan: 5-10 years.

About:

Dramanders, affectionately referred to as nuisance dragons are very small, and while they can glide, they cannot fly. Often brightly colored with various darker patterns overtop, they range in a variety of colors. These dragons pose no real threat, however they are incredibly annoying.  They are known for making noise, dropping objects, and stalking horses and riders in packs numbering ten or up to thirty individuals. They don’t possess any magic, gemstones, or arcane shards, and as such are rarely the focus of a hunt. They can be offended however, and will flare their frills and make a chattering or hissing noise before scurrying away if that happens.

They lay soft shelled, white eggs in clutches of three to ten every spring. This species of dragons mimics birds and often nests in trees. However, their nests have been found in a variety of areas, some just as infuriating as this dragon's personality. They hatch as fully-formed, smaller versions of their adult counterparts and are soon amongst the pack terrorizing passerby. Once matured at a year old, they often leave their pack to find mates, likely leading to the great range of diversity in colors and patterns. Unlike other dragons, they don’t seem to be territorial, since multiple packs may share the same area.

The only difference noted between males and females of the species are the colors they present with. Males tend to be more vibrant, while females tend to be colors that better blend into the environment.

Hunting Recommendations:
  • As Dramanders live in tropical areas and hate the cold, the use of Icefinger can deter them from bothering your horse.
  • Toxicate can also be useful to keep them from nipping at your horse's heels.
  • If Nuisance dragons appear when hunting a different species it is often best to ignore them, or offer food so that they leave your horses alone.
  • These dragons are not particularly dangerous, but they can be very annoying as the whole pack tends to feed off of each other's antics.
Habitat & Diet:

Commonly seen throughout the Isles of Invermay, however they have also been found in coastal areas of Kisarana and The Lost Kingdom. While they prefer trees, they can be seen anywhere and wherever they can fit, hide, or perch. This includes areas inhabited by other dragons as well as humans.
They live on a diet of insects and small animals such as frogs, mice, voles, etc. They've also been well documented feasting on scavenged food from traveler’s packs.
