1.1.7 Dragons: Sky Dragon

Sky Dragon

Draconis caelum
Picture
Typical Adult Sky Dragon 7-10 ft | 213-305 cm at the top of shoulder. Lifespan: 20-30 years.

About:

Draconis Caelum, otherwise known as sky dragons, are the undisputed kings of the sky. They are an aggressive breed that is well-known for their speed and agility in the air, along with their will to fight, so aggressive that they will fight to the death-- because of this, these dragons require an advanced team! Sky dragons can range in color, but are always very pale shades, with darker coloring on the horns, wings, and feet--and are the only species of dragon known to have feathers, which provide flight stability and insulation from high altitude temperatures. They are a species of gemstone dragon, but only grow diamonds, and unlike other breeds, hoard their shed gems. They are hatched from clutches of translucent, quartz-like eggs 1-3 in number, and are reared by their parents until they are strong enough to fend for themselves, and are fully mature at 3 years old.
Sky dragons live mated pairs, and remain with the same partner for their entire lives. True to the aggressive nature of the breed, family units are to be avoided, as the parents protect their young with their lives. It is also noted that this breed will attack without warning or provocation, so inexperienced teams would do best to avoid their territories if at all possible. Their prey primarily consists of mountain sheep and other mammals that thrive in cliffside environments, but have been seen to feast on fish, birds, and eggs of both the avian and dragon type. Males of this species tend to be bolder in color, where females are often more pale, and may be seen with slight mottling in order to help them blend in while they are nesting.

Hunting Recommendations:Advanced teams only--these dragons are dangerous! It would also be wise to avoid fledgelings and nests
Goldenwing is required! Nightshade potion may also be useful, to provide the zeal and agility to fight these dragons.
Depending on environment, the following may be useful: Toxicate, Icefinger, Ram, Heat, Winterbreeze, Ares, Heartstone.
They will use physical attack first, and magic and fire attacks second. Beware of teeth, claws, sharp razor wing edges, and occasional tail swipes!
Decoy tactics often useful--especially when the dragons are enraged.
They can deploy bursts of blue flame with astounding speed and accuracy, watch yourself!
Their flame magic is amplified by their diamonds, and can either freeze or burn instantly, adaptability is a must!
Habitat & Diet:Mostly found around cliffs and mountains of Aleria, Amadora and Korandyre. They nest in small crannies or open ledges on rocky cliff sides, adorning their nests with their gems, fur, horns, bones, and branches from their prey--making nests easy to spot--though the dragons themselves are hard to see, blending in well with both clouds and rock faces alike. This species prefers bare rock faces to inhabit, but can be found in sparsely vegetated rocky areas as well.

Breeding season: Every three to five years, during the summer.
