1.1.14 Dragons: Vrux

Vrux

Draconis petrametus
Picture
Typical Adult Vrux 8-12 ft | 243-366 cm at the top of shoulder. Lifespan: 15-20 years. Rarity: Common.

About:

Vrux are often dark colours of brown and grey, on occasion being completely black. This is with the exception their underbelly--which is often bright or opalescent, and plated with a gemstone-like material. Vrux dragons live in social groups of 5-10 members, often made up of several mated pairs--with only one of these pairs producing a clutch of eggs each year. Once hatched, the whole group will raise the young as a collective. Vrux lay very small, dark mottled eggs, often in large clutches of up to 8. The dragons grow very quickly, and are very independent--venturing from the nest alone from around 6 months of age. When they reach maturity at 1 year, roughly ¾ of the clutch will usually leave in search of their own groups, with only one or two of the offspring staying with their family unit.
This dragon’s diet varies wildly, as they are omnivorous, and they can be seen feasting on any manner of prey or foraging. However, they also seem to be immune to poisonous berries, and it is thought that this may make their saliva toxic. Their colourful underbelly is formed through the consumption of gemstones, and for this reason they can often be found in areas surrounding other dragons’ territories--though they seem to prefer sharing territory with sky dragons. The two species can be seen fighting very frequently, and although Vrux are less inherently violent than sky dragons, they can be just as dangerous. If a group of Vrux have been without gemstones for extended periods, their underbelly loses its colour and hardness, becoming brittle and easily broken. The only difference between the genders on Vrux dragons is the underbelly, where males tend to be more vibrant in color.

Hunting Recommendations:Goldenwing and Toxicate may prove useful!
This species do not use magic, so other potions are optional.
Gems can lure them out of their nests, which is a useful tool for raids!
Depending on the diet of the dragon, their saliva may be toxic!
Physical attacks such a biting, claws, wing or tail swipes are this dragon’s primary defense
This species prefers aerial attacks, as their gemstone underbellies are impervious to physical attacks unless brittle from low gemstone consumption.
Live in large groups, may be best to target dragons that are away from the nest and alone.
Habitat & Diet:Often found nesting around cliffs of Aleria and Amadora. They often make their homes by burrowing info cliffsides, making small caves and alcoves that they use as nesting areas.Vrux spend very little time in their nests, and instead can be seen in surrounding areas hunting for prey or foraging.  Although they are most commonly found near sky dragons, some will travel large distances in search of gems, or may choose other sources such as cave or wood dragons instead, as they are less violent than their aerial cousins. Although they nest in surrounding cliffs, they have been known to hunt in almost any terrain.
Breeding season: One pair per family group - Yearly, often during spring-summer.
