1.1.13 Dragons: Scavenger

Scavenger

Draconis lutum
Picture
Typical Adult Scavenger 6-12 in | 15-30 cm at the top of shoulder. Lifespan: 12-16 years.

About:

Scavengers--a small, brown dragon with green circular markings down their back--are often seen living close to human civilisation, or other large dragon populations. Their social groups are very, very large, consisting of a minimum of 40 individuals. These dragons do not pose much of a threat - they do not use magic, and are too small to really do much physical damage. However, they can be quite an annoyance. These dragons are mischievous, and will often steal food or valuables from other dragons and humans alike. They will often approach hunting parties and can give away their location, making stealth difficult.
These dragons lay 2-4 eggs at a time, with the young being watched by a handful of elder females while other members of the group continue to scavenge for food. At six months of age, they will begin to get more involved in the daily scavenging, and are mature at about a year and a half of age. The dragons often make their homes in nests abandoned by other dragons and can be underground, in caves, or on cliffs. They may also use abandoned buildings or ruins of old structures--even current structures if they manage to annoy the inhabitants away. As their name implies, their diet consists of whatever they can scavenge, and will eat practically anything. There are no differences between the males and females of the species in Scavenger dragons.

Hunting Recommendations:Not considered to be dangerous, only annoying.
Food can be used to distract, or lead them in another direction.
In some cases, they can be lured away with shiny objects.
In hunts, they are best dealt with by distraction or luring them away--they aren’t much of a threat, but can still scratch, bite, and hover around horses and riders, creating a scene and being a nuisance.
Habitat & Diet:Found commonly throughout Aleria, Amadora and occasionally Korandyre.  They are mainly found in the immediate area surrounding towns, or around other areas with populations of different dragon species. They survive just about anywhere though, and can often be seen not only near, but living in tandem with other dragon species--and seem to be tolerated, even with their annoying demeanor.
Breeding season: Once every 2-3 years, often during the summer.
